On a walk you dialogue
With your enemy
Your enemy lives between your shoulder blades
They have the same backpack, but in a different color
They are better than you at articulating
Things you believed at age 23
Your back body sings to your enemy
Your jaw flows back
Your ass bounces to the beat
Of an enemy heart
Your baby starts to fall
Asleep, tucked against
The bright winter
You move your baby through
A kind of time
Padded, thick
Protected from the resentment
Innate in change
I grew and there was no context
For my growing, no world
To hold and mark my bigness
No language for what it meant to be
That alive
Inside a body
Raggedy dragonfly
An image flopping in blank space
Your enemy watches from the playground
You put this leaf next to this piece of bark
It means something
Your enemy watches
You have this incredible way of connecting what feels internal / mental / verbal to a small blessed outer image, like this dragonfly. it is what I most treasure about your work. Thank you for this.
Finally 🎉 so glad you are here EKF, thank you for writing poems and sharing them like seeds, I’m reading and planting them in my heart
